Hypothyroidism and TSH levels?
TSH range is 0.4 to 4.5 ..this may vary a litte depending on the reference you happen to read. TSH level just measures the amount of hormone your brain sends to the thyroid to make the thyroid work and secrete the actual thyroid hormones. If the TSH is high it could mean your thyroid hormone levels are low. The brain puts out extra TSH to try and make the thyroid gland "wake up" and put out enough thyroid homrones. Some references indicate doctors will check the thyroid hormone level, also called T4, if the TSH is over 2.0. and the patient is symptomatic like you are. I hope you are seeing an endocrinologist since you are symptomatic and you have a family history of thyroid diseasse.
