How does Gossip Girl change over time? I'm on the 3rd episode and something doesn't seem right!?

I know a lot of people who watch gossip girl, but i never have. I just started catching up yesterday so I'm on the third episode of season 1 right now. I do however watch 90210 and I love it! I always had this idea that 90210 and GG would be similar... but right now gossip girl just seems annoying! It looks like the show will be based on nothing but preppy, snobby girls dating snobby guys, having quickies in hotel rooms and ex-best friends getting revenge on each other. There's just something very dull and uninteresting about the characters on gossip girl. I mean, on 90210 the characters actually seem to have a personality and you can see how they feel, why they do what they do, and they are just more likeable . . . so my question is, will this change soon or should i just stop watching it now because it's going to remain pretty much the same throughout the series?
